Sister Constance Joanna Gefvert

The Rev. Dr. Constance Joanna Gefvert, SSJD (preferred name Connie) has been a member of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine for 40 years. She has served in many areas of the Sisters’ work, including St. John’s Rehab Hospital before amalgamation, Director of the Convent Guest House, Clerk of the Works, and many other adventuresome positions. At St. John’s Rehab she served as the Pastoral Care Visitor on A-4 (back in the days when the sisters were an integrated part of patient care teams). For a time, she was in charge of Quality Assurance and Risk Management, and then as Vice President while Sr. Philippa was still CEO. During the eleven years she was Rev. Mother, she served on the hospital board, and was named Interim CEO for a year before Malcolm Moffat took the reins. Before entering the Sisterhood, Sr. Connie was a Professor of English in the USA, and now teaches on the adjunct theology faculty of Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She plays the piano for most of the sisters’ chapel services, and is presently overseeing the renovation of the Guest House. Her hobbies are road trips and reading good mysteries.
